G88A Crying Invader (This Doesn't Happen) Oil on canvas board Jun to Jul 2006 Size 285x386 mm |
About this painting This was painted for a star-crossed exhibition into computer game culture. The picture is about the lack of emotion in computer games. The space invader is perhaps the most iconic of computer game images. By creating a background that reflects the emotion and the idea of the entire subject, the simple image of a crying space invader is taken a step further, adding more to what could have been iteself an emotionless and gimmicky work of art. |
Technical details In contrast to my usual technique of the period, the background landscape and sky was painted roughly and improvised. The rain was painted stroke by stroke later, as was the invader. |
