About this painting
When my cat killed this house sparrow I decided to photograph it, and later painted it, intrigued by the delicate feathers and triangular pose.

Many artists might prefer to paint living birds, although a dead bird can be just as beautiful. The fluffy feathers are painted in single strokes, using the sable hairs of the brush to mimic the delicate fibrils of the feathers.

Technical details
The simplicity of the colour scheme was one of the things that attracted me to this picture. A reddish brown and ultramarine were used for almost all of the colours. When mixed they make black, and with white can make a large range of colours from blue greys to strong browns.
