Crimson
by Andrew Gillespie
People had been talking about it for years. A "ghost" ship that just materialized, shot down its victim, and left. "Ha! Ghost ship? I'm not afraid of any ghost ship!" Said Henry Johnson. "I bet I could blast that ship into the ground!" He said as he hopped into his Willow Wasp. The Exorcist he had named it, thinking he could kill the ghost ship.
Henry wasn't all to rich, like other captains, but he made up for that in weaponry. Minigun, eagle missiles, predator scanner, radar and his secret weapon: the nuke. He had obtained it by destroying a cargo king on its way to a manufacturing plant, and he planned to use in on the ghost ship. As he flew, Henry thought about how he would go about attacking a ghost ship. Maybe he should use the nuke right away. But what if it had shields? Then he would have to use his minigun first to lower the shields then use the nuke. Happy he had a plan, Henry began to go faster, hoping to find the ship quickly.

Trade station Bosnia, sector 15,13
As Henry walk around the base, he thought about how he would find the ghost. "Maybe I should post a flier…" He thought as he walked through a crowd of people. "I swear! I saw it with my own eye!" Yelled a one-eyed man on a platform. "What's he talkin' about?" Asked Henry to a bearded man. "The elusive 'Ghost' ship. He says he saw it." The man replied. "In what sector?" Henry said, trying not to sound all to interested. "He says sector 13,13." The man said. "Hmmm…Thanks." Henry said as he began to walk back to the Exorcist. "A ghost ship in sector 13,13? That sector has a lot of pirates in it… It could just be pirates." Henry said, not completely sure.

Henry thought he would stock up on stun missiles before he went to 13,13. "One thousand five hundred dollars each." Said the arms dealer. "What!?" Henry said angrily. "I could buy a ship for that much!" "Heh. A Bat maybe," Said the dealer. "Fine, one thousand each. Final offer." "Fine," Henry said. "I'll take two, I guess." "Thank you for you patronage," The dealer said. "Do come again!" Henry muttered a few choice words before storming off.
When he came back to the Exorcist, Henry fit the stun missiles on his ship, and took off. Setting the hyperdrive to 13,13, Henry jumped into the void.

Horus Nebula, sector 13,13
The Exorcist exited hyperspace into a sector of a blood red fog billowing around the ship.
"Wow," Henry muttered. "This seems like the place that a ghost ship would be."
As he flew deeper into the fog, it grew thicker, wrapping ever closer to the Exorcist. Suddenly, a warning light pulsed red on the console. "Missile?" Henry wondered. Sparks erupted from the back of the ship as the missile collided. "Missile." Henry said, bringing the ship around. A bulk carrier met him, its body colored as red than the sector. Crimson was printed on the side. "This is a ghost ship?" Said Henry. "This is gonna be easy!" The carrier started to move, seeming to blend into the sector itself. All that could be seen was the orange glow of the thrusters. "Humph. This is no ghost…it's just a pirate." Henry said. A gravely voice came through the radio, making Henry shudder. "Surrender boy. You cannot hope to defeat a ghost." "YOU'RE NOT A GHOST!" Henry shouted. "YOU'RE JUST A CRAZY OLD FOOL WHO THINKS HE'S A GHOST!"
"How dare you call a me a fool! Taste a little Ion!" The voice said, beginning to shoot sizzling plasma bolts into the Exorcist. Henry grunted, wrestling the controls. "Trying to shoot me down eh? Have some of this!" He said, squeezing the trigger and hosing the sector with minigun fire. The bullets hit the Crimson, ripping tiny holes in the side of it. Primary weapon ammunition exhausted flashed on the console. "What? Already?" Henry said, annoyed. "You're out of ammo, boy. Give up." The voice said, sending shivers up Henry's spine. "No way. Not yet." Henry said, arming his eagle missiles. Henry let the rockets loose. They hurled through space, flying straight at the Crimson; the missiles collided into the ship, widening the holes in its side. Henry loaded more ammo into his minigun, shooting the rounds at the carrier. The shots hit the Crimson again, the holes growing wider and wider. Henry went round and round the ship, trying not to get shot.
The Crimson was straining to keep together, the holes threatening to rip the ship in half.
Henry aimed towards the Crimson, launching the two stun missiles, paralyzing the ship.
Henry armed the nuke. "See? You're still human…" He said. And squeezed the trigger.
